Last weekend I was incredibly privileged to visit the utterly spectacular and beautiful Heron Island. This island, part of the Capricornia Cays National Park, lies some 72km off the coast of Gladstone and is at the southern tip of the Great Reef Reef. The island is home to an abundance of marine wildlife, including turtles, reef sharks, rays and a multitude of reef-dwelling fish as well as providing nesting sites for an array of birdlife. It truly is a photographer's paradise, with stunning sunrises and sunsets, amazing opportunities for astrophotography and pristine white beaches leading into the clearest of ocean water as well as the challenges of capturing some of the native wildlife.
