We captured all the action from the Queensland Academies: Creative Industries Grade 12 dance showcase. "Propel" was the cohort's final performance and marked the culmination of three years of study for the IB Diploma, with pieces choreographed by the students themselves, their teachers and guest choreographers...
Precision and Poise - When Timing is Everything...
Dance is always a challenging subject matter, with both extremes of physicality and artistry, usually captured in sub-prime lighting conditions. Achieving a balance between the exertion and the beauty is one of the reasons I love shooting dance imagery so much and one that takes much practice. During my recent spell capturing the Queensland State Championships for the dance sport of Physie, the team competitions created the perfect opportunity to showcase this. With 8 participants per team performing the same choreography in a range of elegant patterns, there were opportunities to capture some incredible, split-second moments...
Keeping Busy with Physie...
One of the jobs which has kept us very busy for the past few weeks is capturing imagery of the BJP Physie State Championships. Physie is a form of competitive dance-sport which has been popular for over 127 years. So far we've captured all the action at the Girls Individual Gold and Maroon Zone rounds and in coming weeks we'll be switching attention to the Ladies Individuals and the Team competitions before it all culminates in the State Finals in November...
